The Lowdown on a Standby Generator

What is the difference between a portable generator and a standby generator? The standby unit is capable of powering an entire home. A portable unit can supply power to an appliance and it can be moved around. You cannot move around the unit that is capable of powering an entire house.

When a power outage occurs, the standby generator will start up on its own. These are large devices and are fixed in one place. It looks similar to a large outdoor air conditioning unit. Portable units are much smaller; they are about the size of a regular cooler. A small gas engine also powers them.

The basic difference is that a standby generator will power everything in the house, while a portable generator will power one electrical appliance at a time. Another very important difference is that a professional must install the standby units. This is because they must be connected to a propane or natural gas fuel source. The generator also must be connected to your home's electrical system.

A standby generator must also have a transfer switch installed with a separate electrical panel. This switch allows the power to come on within a few seconds of a power failure. When your regular electricity has been restored, the transfer switch senses this and powers down the generator.

Some generators actually come with software that allows you to check the status of it even if you are not at home. It can also let you know if there is something wrong with the device. This can be very helpful information.

A standby generator requires periodic maintenance just like any other mechanical device. Your operator's manual will provide information on how to do this yourself. Alternatively, there are companies that can do this for you.

You should test your standby generator on a regular basis to make sure the starting battery is still in good shape. It should be charged about once a month. If you do not test it, chances are that it might not work when you need it most.

Your guide to information on various types of generators such as a standby generator and natural gas generators. We also provide information for consumers on various brands as well. Visit our site today.

Under Counter Water Filter - Part of a Workable, Pleasing Family Kitchen

If your household is anything like mine, then your kitchen is the hub of the majority of family activity. The clutter created by counter-top appliances, food, dishes, drinking glasses, school books, papers, etc., can make it difficult to enjoy a pleasing, workable kitchen. That's why I took an important step toward clearing the clutter by installing an under counter water filter. It's one less item on my counter-top that I have to continually fuss with.

Water purification has always been a priority in our home. In the beginning, it was because we didn't like the taste and smell of the water that came out of our tap. However, after spending a fortune on bottled water delivery, I began to research home water treatment systems. There were so many water filtration products on the market I needed to dig deeper before I pulled out my wallet.

There were plenty of under counter water filter systems, as well as counter-top, shower and whole house appliances. Some were based on reverse osmosis, while others utilized a water distillation process.

I didn't want another appliance sitting on my kitchen counter, so I narrowed my search to under counter water filters.

But I needed to do more research to find the best filtration process for my under counter water filter.

That's when I discovered that pleasant tasting water was the least of my worries. I learned that water pollution is more than an interesting topic that is covered in the nightly news.

The Ralph Nader Study Group issued a report after completing an assessment of over 10,000 documents secured through the Freedom of Information Act. This comprehensive review verified that "U.S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer."

I also learned that reverse osmosis and distillation have some handicaps when it came to filtering out certain contaminants. The size of the molecules that make up certain organic chemicals and bacterial cysts means they can make it through the filtering process and into your water.

Just so you know, this deficiency can be fixed with the addition of a carbon filter. However, I didn't want to have to purchase another appliance to support the under counter water filter appliance. More clutter (not to mention, more expense and hassle...)!

After looking at all the different under counter water filters, and learning about their advantages and disadvantages, I finally settled upon a multi-stage filtration under counter water filter.

Multi-stage filtration is an up-and-coming technology that filters out a large majority of chemical toxins, odor-causing sediments, and high levels of chlorine.

There is also a health bonus to multi-stage filtration: it leaves healthy mineral content untouched. So you and your family not only get the benefits of water that safe and clean, but healthy as well.

Oh...and this is cool! The company that I purchased the appliance from produced an instructional video, watchable from their web site, for installing the under counter water filter appliance. It was so easy to understand and follow. It hardly took any time at all.

The best part is that I have a workable, pleasing family kitchen, with less clutter and more convenience. All of this courtesy of my under counter water filter.

If you want to make a pleasant, healthful contribution to the hub of your family activities, then I highly recommend you check out multistage filtration under counter water filters. You can even check out what they look like if you stop by my web site. I've also got more helpful water purification information there.

Article written by water purification researcher, Olivia Romero, who cautions, "There are many reasons why we need clean, healthy water but there's one that has to rank as the most important of all." Visit http://www.cleancoolwater.com to find out what it is.

What Are Honeywell Humidifiers?

If you live in a very hot or very cold climate you may find that the low humidity environment causes dry skin or throat, allergies, asthma or nose bleeds. Low humidity doesn't just have potential health effects; it can also damage wooden furniture. The best level of humidity for human habitation is between 30 and 40 per cent.

This is where humidifiers come in. A humidifier increases the moisture in the air so that you can avoid any potential health problems and protect the furniture around the home. There are humidifiers that can be used in a single room and there are ones that can be for the whole house.

One company that makes humidifiers is Honeywell and their products are sold throughout the world. They make two types of humidifiers. The Hot Air Humidifier produces a warm stream in order to re-humidify the hair. On the other hand, a Cold Air Honeywell Humidifiers use a cold mist to regulate humidity levels. Both types of designs work just as well.

Honeywell units are known for their ability to collect dust and smoke particles in the air. This helps to keep the air in your home clear of these types of particles which can irritate the nose, throat and skin. This is an added benefit to their ability to moisten the air.

You can buy a humidifier at your home improvement or retail store. Prices can vary between outlets and brands. Honeywell is a well-known premium brand so you should expect to pay a little more. However, retailers do discount several times during the year in order to get rid of stock and you will likely pick up a bargain during this time.

The Honeywell Humidifier Guide can provide you with more information about the advantages of a Honeywell Humidifier.

Automated Conveyor Belts

Industrialization heralded the mechanization of jobs and tasks. The mechanization of work was done through electrical and mechanical parts. This improved the productivity of the individual, and greatly reduced the manual burden of shop floor operators. Mechanization also improved working conditions in heavy industries such as steel, textile and mining operations.

After mechanization, the automation of work was implemented through early-stage computer systems such as punch cards that were extensively used in textile operations like weaving using Jacquard machines. The miniaturization of chip designs and advances in electronic components likes diodes improved the automation of operations and a continuous flow of work in industries like the chemical industry, where the processes run continuously for days without interruptions.

Conveyor belts are simple mechanical devices driven by motors and guided by rollers at various stages. Conveyor belts can be several kilometers long, which poses problems when breakdowns happen - like the belt tearing. There may be times when the materials get stuck on the belt. Interruptions of this nature may cause tremendous damage to the materials and to the business. One can imagine the losses when tons of materials cannot be transported to a particular destination.

Automation of the transmission line of the conveyor belts can help attend to the problems of mechanical breakdowns. Automation software, devices such as Programmable Logic Control (PLC) devices, and diodes for monitoring help automate the transmission. PLCs control the stop and run of the belts, and photosensitive devices monitor the proper running of belts. Software programs manage the entire operations of conveyor belts, and also most of the operations associated with conveyor belts, such as packaging.

Automation helps the bulk material handling industry in its smooth operation efforts and productivity issues. Automated conveyor belts provide these solutions to the bulk material handling industry.

Conveyor Belts provides detailed information on Conveyor Belts, Plastic Conveyor Belts, Wire Mesh Conveyor Belts, Rubber Conveyor Belts and more. Conveyor Belts is affiliated with Fiber Optic Connectors.

Why is the Clothes Dryer Destroying My Clothes?

It happened again, your clothes were ruined by the dryer! Burn holes in your underwear and your other articles of clothing, torn and shredded. What is going on? You dryer might need some fixin' and here's what you will need to replace.

If your clothes are getting ripped, cut or torn, your dryer probably has a felt-like seal at the front and/or rear of the dryer drum that has worn out, is torn or is missing. Your clothes might be getting caught in the gap between the clothes drum and the front or rear of the dryer interior. When a clothes dryer seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Also, check the lint filter or lint trap; it might be worn or showing sharp edges. Your clothes could possible be getting caught on this during the cycle. Be sure to replace this part immediately.

If your clothing comes out marked up, the support parts for the dryer drum might be worn out, thus, throwing the drum off-balances and getting your clothes pinched in between parts of the dryer. Check the glides, rollers, wheels, and seals for wear. Replace the whole set of glides, rollers, or wheels if one or more are bad. You will also want to check the rear support for any play in it. Sometimes the rear drum bearing gets worn out.

If your laundry is coming out smelling smoky, your dryer may have had a small lint fire inside the cabinet, leaving a smoky odor in the clothes drum and on your clothes. Even though there is a lint filter in your dryer, it doesn't catch all the lint. You need to check inside the cabinet at least yearly to look for and clean out any lint build-up. Check the inside cabinet and inner ductwork of your dryer. A dryer vent lint brush will help you reach inside the machine and vent to brush off and remove any built up lint. Also, be sure to clean out the lint trap after every use.

A lint fire is nothing to take lightly; many house fires are caused by lint build up in dryers and their vents. According to this 2005 article from CBS News, 15,000 house fires are caused by dryers every year. Keep your family safe by checking for lint buildup in the cabinet at least yearly. Be sure to check your outside exhaust vent for blockages. Install a smoke alarm near your dryer for added protection. Have a professional appliance repair person check the dryer for damage caused by any lint fires and to cleanout any lint from any pipes connected to the dryer.

Also, don't put items in the dryer such as garage rags stained with motor oil or gasoline, and aprons, dish towels, or napkins stained with cooking oil. Even if the items was washed previously, some residue might still remain and possible cause a combustion.

Other items that aren't meant for the dryer: anything made of rubber or plastic, such as baby diaper pants, bath mats, even foam-padded bras (bras and other delicates should be air-dried anyways to prevent them from bending and losing their shape!)

A signal that your dryer might be becoming clogged with lint, your clothes just aren't coming out dry. Clean your dryer with a link brush or call a professional to have it cleaned for you. You might not need a new dryer, just have it cleaned.

If your clothes are coming out all wrinkled, do not let your clothes sit in the dryer after the cycle has ended - remove the clothes promptly from the dryer and either hang or fold them. Also, dry only one load at a time; don't pack the dryer too full. Do not dry heavy items with light items. Use the permanent press cycle to give clothes a cool down cycle at the end to reduce wrinkling.

Make sure you are also washing the clothes in the correct temperature (water that is too hot can also cause clothes to wrinkle). Be sure to read and follow the care instructions on the clothing item's label for best results.

Finally, if it's a little wrinkled, you can always rewash and dry the clothes again.

Infrared Barbecues Are the Future of Grilling

Grilling outdoors and indoors can be a fun and entertaining experience. Grills are usually easy to operate and they work well to cook a variety of meals. From meat to desserts, barbecue grills are used by all levels of chefs. Even gourmet chefs like to use grill every now and again.

Until recently one of the most frequent places that a barbecue grill, that used infrared technology, could be found was in restaurants and other eateries. These commercial sized appliances are still used today in many food focused business and have been used in most businesses since entering the commercial food preparation world in the 1960s.. However, they are also making their way into the residential and consumer markets.

Infrared barbeques have just now flickered their way onto the residential scene. Many experts believe that this is because of their high cost. An infrared grill or barbeque can cost upwards of a few thousand dollars or more, depending on the size of the unit. Larger grills can be much more expensive than the average consumer can afford for their summertime backyard barbeques.

While infrared barbeques can be expensive, they are worth the investment and that is one of the main reasons why it is common to see them popping up in higher end areas of different communities across the country.

Infrared is a technology that has been around for a while and it is no stranger to the world of cooking and fine cuisines. Many chefs actually prefer using an infrared appliance because of its fine cooking abilities. Infrared grills and barbeques offer cooking conveniences that other appliances that are in the same class cannot offer. These conveniences include shorter cooking times and high quality results for meat that is cooked on the grill. In fact, it has been proven that meat that is cooked on an infrared grill is juicer and more tender than a cut of meat that is cooked in another fashion or on a different type of grill.

This higher quality of cooked meats may have to do with the temperature of an infrared grill. Infrared cooks food items at 450 to 900 degrees, while other types of grills, including gas and charcoal, cook meat around 700 to 750 degrees Fahrenheit.

A high quality infrared bbq is a nice looking appliance. It is usually made from stainless steel and includes lots of grilling space. From the outside a nice infrared grill can look like any other nice looking outdoor cooking appliance. Most of them even have some of the same accessories as regular outdoor grills. These accessories include: storage space, cabinets, burners and warming areas. Infrared grills also have an electronic ignition. It is the place where the infrared technology is sparked for grilling.

For people who enjoy infrared grills there are other areas of the home and different appliances that can be purchased that use infrared technology. These include heaters, saunas and other cooking items.

Anne Clarke writes numerous articles for Web sites on gardening, biking, fashion, and home decor. Her background also includes running, yoga, and tattoos. For more of her useful information on infrared grilling visit Infrared Barbeque.

Recycling Common Electronic Gadgets

Modern life is full of electronic gadgets. Cell phones, digital cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, computers, laptops, monitors and more are common in all modern households. These modern electronic devices provide entertainment and help us in many ways. The problem with them is that they wear out or become obsolete, and then we are faced with the challenge of how to dispose of them.

Simply throwing electronic devices in the trash may be 1 option, but it is an option with a significant environmental impact. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over 200 million tons of electronic waste (e-waste) ends up in landfills every year. The problem with this is that many consumer electronic items contain harmful materials such as lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium and more. These materials can pollute the land, water, and air. In fact, according to Earth 911, over 70% of toxic waste found in landfills comes from e-waste.

Some items, such as computers and computer monitors, are banned from landfills and curbside trash pickup. In some states and municipalities, it is illegal to simply throw away such items. So the challenge is twofold, how to dispose of properly to comply with applicable laws, or how to dispose of properly because it is the environmentally responsible thing to do.

Most people are familiar with the recycling of cans, glass, paper, and plastic. They either take it to designated recycling centers at their landfill, or transfer station, or they are picked up through curbside recycling efforts. When it comes to recycling our electronic gadgets, the task becomes significantly more difficult. Unlike cans, paper, plastic, and glass, there is typically not curbside recycling for electronic devices. You also typically cannot simply take such items and leave them at the landfill or transfer station. Thus, recycling our gadgets requires some thought and effort. It is important to know your recycling options for common electronic items.

Reuse Electronic Devices through Donation

An excellent option for electronic gadgets that are still in working order is to donate them to someone who can make use of them. Many schools and community groups are happy to receive working electronic items. Schools, for example, often are very appreciative to receive donated computers, peripherals, and monitors. There are even tax incentives built into the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 for companies to donate such items to schools. Cell phones are another item that many community organizations love to receive in donation. In addition, there are national organizations that will accept donations of electronic items. Some organizations that accept donations include:

  • Electronics Industry Alliance (EIA)
  • Computers For Schools
  • Another Byte, Inc.
  • National Cristina Foundation (NCF)
  • Share the Technology
  • Educational Assistance Ltd. (EAL)
  • The Wireless Foundation
  • The 911 Cell Phone Bank

Recycling Unwanted Electronic Gadgets

If reuse through donation is not an option there are numerous programs for recycling unwanted electronic items. Many municipalities will have special days at their landfill or transfer station where these items will be accepted for recycling. There may be a fee associated with these programs.

In addition, many major manufacturers of common electronic items will accept them for recycling, including Acer, Apple, Dell, Epson, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo/IBM, Panasonic, Sony, and Toshiba. Many major retailers also have recycling programs, including Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, and Staples.

For cellular phones, many cell phone manufacturers, and all of the major wireless companies provide recycling programs for cell phones. Most of the programs will accept anyone's cell phones for recycling.

A Word About Recycling Batteries

General purpose and alkaline batteries are not considered to be hazardous waste by the US Government. These items may be disposed of with normal household waste except in California where non-households must dispose of them in accordance with the California Universal Waste Rules. Recycling programs for general purpose and alkaline batteries are rare.

Rechargeable batteries may be recycled for free. You may find a list of organizations that accept rechargeable batteries at the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation.

HVAC Contractors

If you are building a house, you probably need an HVAC contractor or an expert in heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and products. A certified and experienced HVAC contractor will help you decide what kind of HVAC equipment you need and determine the practical and resource-efficient systems.

When choosing the right HVAC contractor, consider the company profile. First, you need your contractor to be very efficient at what they do. Otherwise, you will have problems that are difficult and expensive to fix later on. Second, you must choose with insurance coverage. They must be able to pay you in case they break something while installing your HVAC. Remember that your HVAC equipment and the system that support them are among the most important features of your home or office. And they are also the most difficult to change. So be very careful with your choices. When in doubt, always consult a construction expert. You may also canvass for contractors online. Most sites offer complete information about their HVAC contractors and staff.

Old houses that need renovation need to be seen and inspected first by a licensed and certified HVAC contractor. This may be the perfect time to take down the old system and introduce a more modern but cost-effective alternative.

And if houses need HVAC contractors, then commercial and residential buildings and facilities also need these kinds of professional experts. While the electrical engineer, the civil engineer, the architect, and designer may already have talked about the blueprint, they will need to consult with an HVAC expert. Because of his knowledge and skill, the HVAC contractor has a lot more to contribute to the design and implementation of the plan. On your end, you can be assured that nothing will go wrong with your HVAC system. It is also important for you to befriend the organizers, as they will most likely be the ones responsible for the maintenance of your equipment and system.

You Can Never Be Too Safe Entertaining Friends and Family in the Kitchen Area

Whether it is a weekday family diner or most special dinner party or event, it seems that in our day and age people gather in the kitchen area. This was not always so - not even in the most recent past.

The kitchen used to be an area "reserved for the servants". It was not the place in a home or establishment that was considered a social area - an area to meet, greet and socialize. Indeed it was considered a most utilitarian area meant for work and certainly no play.

It can be said that the widespread introduction of cookbooks democratized cooking to a great idea. To cook "from a book" was a new and strange idea at the time of the introduction of cookbooks into popular vogue. Previously people had either been taught in the trade, or at best for domestic purposes would have been taught by a parent - in our politically correct world it would have been impolitely referred to as a mother teaching her daughter how to be a "good wife".

Now it is an accepted way of life, social mores and entertainment practice that both either sex can be a good cook and that entertainment and socialization in the home is often held in the kitchen or in the kitchen / family room areas.

Regardless of it all kitchen safety and safety practices must always be upheld.

One of the first rules of safety in a kitchen and kitchen environment is that water and electricity do not mix. If you find that you touch an electrical appliance or appliances while turning on a water tap or touch a basin of water - this may well be a most difficult situation and scenario. If you must involve water and / or using the kitchen sink it is best to remove all electrical appliances from the immediate area.

If you are using an electric element on your stovetop range it is best not to utilize the electric plug on that same range. It is amazing how rubber electric cords seem to fall onto a red hot electric element that is in use. Such a cord that touches a red hot element will quickly begin to burn and smolder. Smoke and a fire can result - setting off other flames. The smoke alarm may well go off from the black smoky flames. If you are entertaining there is little worse than a loud smoke alarm in the foreground disrupting the whole event. At the least the power cord will be damaged - exposing wires, needing to be replaced. Even if damage to the cord is not evident, it may well give a nasty shock to the next user. All in all, if an element is being used on the stove top range, then it is best to use electrical ac outlets that are located far away from the range.

Appliances that are used or just used should be kept away from children. If they are still hot, then let them cool well. Push these appliances back far away from the counter so that they do not fall over, scalding guests. Always ensure that the appliance has cooled, is cool to the touch before putting away. Unplug the appliance, push it back and let it cool. Ensure that the cord is not dangling off the edge of the counter. Dangling cords are not only a danger and an invitation for trouble only for adults. Consider inquisitive children as well.

If the electrical appliance has a removable power cord (say for example an electric frying pan), ensure that the cord is disconnected from the wall power sockets before removing it from the appliance. Since the cord is still plugged into the ac power source it will still be "live", and dangerous, when disconnected from the appliance, but not yet from the power source.

Lastly in terms of kitchen appliances that have sharp attachments. These can cut, if the power is still on. For the benefit of your guests and their children, ensure that these appliances are not plugged in when not in use. Simple as that.

You can never be too safe with electrical appliances, when you are entertaining friends and family in the kitchen and kitchen areas.

Home Appliance Store - My Appliance Shopping Story

My wife and I recently moved to Toronto, Ontario and bought a small condo in the downtown Toronto area. I was surprised to find that the condo that I purchased came with compact size appliances that were so old and barely usable. My wife felt that she really needed new appliances and decided to go bargain hunting for well priced appliances in any home appliance store. Being that we were new in Toronto she didn't know where there were any home appliance stores in the downtown Toronto area. She asked around and was recommended one specific home appliance store.

She came home from her finally after heading from one appliances store to the next exhausted and disappointed explaining to me that the dimensions of the appliances that she saw on display that she liked were too big to fit in the small spaces of our small condo. We figured that there must be a way to research appliance online and be able to see all the available home appliances in all the variety of dimensions on a home appliance store on the web. We were quite thrilled when we came by a well organized home appliance store online. Not only did my wife find the exact home appliance that she loved, it fit our price budget and the dimensions were exact. Who knew shopping online for a home appliance store could be so simple. The website was so fabulous! They sold all the major home appliances from all the major manufacturers. We purchased a small fridge, and compact electric range, a portable dishwasher and a stacker washing machine and dryer. When we called the customer service we were told that delivery throughout Toronto, Ontario would be $49.00. That was at least $50 less than any other place around! We were also told that our appliances that we ordered would be arriving within 4-6 business days. We were pleasantly surprised when we received a phone call 2 days later scheduling a delivery time.

All of our appliances were delivered and my wife was super excited. It's good to do some research online before making major purchases and from now on we will only shop online for appliances from online home appliance store such as http://www.canadianappliance.ca/

Dryer Parts - Generic or OEM

Dryer running too hot? Not hot enough? Not heating at all? Taking forever to dry? Sounds like you are going to need some dryer parts. But what the difference between Generic and OEM?

When you are shopping for parts the price should not be the only thing that makes your decision for you. Sure a great price is wonderful but the quality of the parts is really important to.

After all if you save a few dollars but the part lasts for only a short period of time then youve save nothing. Remember if the pricing sounds too good to be true it most likely is.

Quality of the parts is also dependant on the manufacturer. Reputable companies produce reputable parts and you can still get a great buy just by shopping online.

OEM stands for original equipment manufacture. That means the parts are supplied by the actual manufacturer of the dryer and they are sold as OEM replacement parts. This is always your best option whenever possible.

Time shows flaws in material and design and as these flaws become apparent the manufacture will modify parts and alleviate any problems that have arisen.

OEM tracks and records failure rates and a host of other information which help them determine if changes need to be made. Even simple parts like washers or belts can have special design needs to provide satisfactory operation. Gone of the days of improvising with a pair of panty hose.

If you decide to use replacement parts on a dryer that still has warranty realize you could void your warranty. If the dryer has an extended warranty you will void this too. So be careful what parts you use on a warranty appliance.

After your dryer is off warranty you might decide you like the savings. In fact some replacement parts can cost as much as half of the OEM part. Thats substantial. And there are many excellent replacement part manufacturers too, even if the OEMs would like you to believe otherwise.

There are actually a limited number of appliance manufacturers with many mergers between big and small occurring over the years. Today many of them produce products under many different names.

Many times the only difference is cosmetics while the actual mechanics is the same. It pays to do a little research so you know who makes parts for whom.

When buying parts its important to be aware of return policies. Its not unusual to not be able to return parts. Those that do take returns often have a restocking fee of 15% to 20% and many online merchants require an RMA number before they will accept returned goods.

While buying those parts you might consider picking up a dryer repair manual. You can save yourself a lot of time and money by having the directions and it will not only help you do a repair it will help you diagnose a repair.

Whether you have a Hotpoint, Kenmore, Whirlpool, Inglis, Maytag, or GE to name just a few, the repair manual will be a big help!

So when it comes to repairing your dryer you can get dryer parts and manuals online.

How to Choose a Tumble Dryer?

A tumble dryer or a clothes dryer is a domestic appliance that is used to eliminate moisture or wetness from clothes after they have undergone washing in a washing machine. Most dryers are provided with a rotating drum, through which hot air is effectively circulated. This hot air gets rid of the moisture or the wetness from clothes by evaporation. The tumbling effect of the drum is generated because the drum rotates relatively at a slow pace. In stark contrast to a spin dry mechanism, where centrifugal force is made use of to extract moisture from the clothes, the drum in tumble dryers is driven by belt and utilises induction motor to run the belt. Here are a few tips that should help you to obtain a dryer that will help meet your requirements

Tumble dryers are produced in varied colours including black, silver, white and etc. Purchase the one which would go with the dcor of the space you would be maintaining it in. It is significant that you know about the dimensions of the space you would keep your tumble-dryer, therefore avoid buying one that would be too large to fit in the existing space. If you need to buy a venting dryer, make sure that you can place a venting tube or a duct at the location you have proposed to keep your tumble dryer. Most fabric can endure tumble-drying, but it is wise to check the care labels on your clothes to steer clear of disasters. For instance, if there is a symbol that has a square with a circle in it, it denotes that the fabric can be tumble dried and suppose if this symbol has been crossed, it denotes the fabric can not be tumble-dried.

Running costs may depend on how much time the dryer requires to dry and how hard it has to function. Therefore, if you need to cut down on electricity, it is best not to overload the dryer and dry fabrics together that are similar. Also, if you are on the hunt for a washing machine, obtain one with a spinning rate between A and C; so that it can enable you spin the clothes before you begin to tumble dry them. This is sure quick-fire way to be energy efficient.

Make sure that filter in venting dryers is cleaned at least once a week, so look out for a dryer where the filter is convenient to remove and reach. It is wise not to have a condenser dryer in your conservatory or bedroom as they tend to steam up the windows very easily.

Tumble dryers have quite a larger drum compared to washing machines that comes with dryers. The larger the drum, the better is the efficiency of the warm air flowing through the drum thus resulting in much faster drying. In tumble dryers, as there is sufficient room in the drum for the clothes to move in, there are fewer amounts of creases on the clothes, so less pain for sure while ironing. Therefore say goodbye to those wet laundry days and embrace this state of the art technology, the tumble-dryer, in your home today.

Toaster Or Toaster Oven, Which One Should You Have?

Over the past couple of hundred years, kitchens have seen some sort of contraption to toast bread. When first invented, a metal frame was placed into the fire to toast the bread that was inside of it. Now 200 years later, toasters have certainly evolved. No more open fire toasting, instead say hello to the toaster and the toaster oven. Which one is best for you?

Choices for toasters and toaster ovens are endless these days. Toasters now give you the option of either two, four, six, and eight slots. No more waiting around for just two to pop up. Eight slices of toast can be cooked all at one time. If that still is not enough, then maybe the toaster oven is something you need.

Toasters are basically used for toasting bread, bagels, and other small food items that can fit inside the small slot. Toaster oven styles on the other hand are a small oven like appliances. Frozen baking goods, pizzas, baked potatoes all can be placed inside the oven to be cooked in half the time of a regular oven. Households usually have one of each appliance. Saves times, and saves money as well.

Depending on what brand you go with, toasters and toaster ovens have many different features. Some brands such as the Kitchen Aid toasters come with settings that allow you to place frozen pastries inside without worrying about burning them. Other settings include a reheat button and a stop button that brings the bread up once it is pushed. Some brands also come with an option for only one slice of toast for those who eat small.

If bagels are your thing, then one with a wider slot will work well in your kitchen. You can even place a complete sandwich inside and heat that up as well. Unfortunately toasters can only do so much since they are only made for toasting breads. The toaster ovens can do what both can and then a lot more. Having both however is a plus and can save you time in the kitchen.

Remember the pop up toasters or the dial controllers? No more, toasters and toaster ovens now come with digital key pads to simply life in the kitchen. You can even get them in extra large for those who have trouble seeing that early in the morning like many do. Toasters are all about convenience and simplicity, and convenient and simple they are.

If you are worried about the look of your new appliance sitting on your counter, there is no need. Both come in all shapes and sizes to fit your kitchen needs and decor. No need to worry about the appliance not fitting in. Everyone who is anyone has these appliances sitting on their kitchen counter. If you would rather not see it, then just put it under the counter until needed.

Toasters of all shapes, sizes and colors can be found at your local department store for less than $30. The toaster oven styles on the other hand are found more in larger department stores, or you can even check out some online appliance stores. Be sure to compare toaster oven prices before buying. Toaster oven styles can range anywhere from $100 to $300 depending on which brand you decide to buy. Either way, both are definitely a necessity we cannot go without.

Luckily toasters are a dime a dozen and can be found in any retail store. Prices may vary depending on which brand you decide to go with. The toaster oven styles on the other hand are found more or less in larger department stores and can go up to about $300 depending on the functions you decide you want. Either way, they are both here to stay.

Presto CoolDaddy Deep Fryer - The Best Cool Touch Deep Fryer

With the recent advances in technology, deep fryers are no longer what they used to; with hot-to-touch exteriors and surfaces and the ever-present likelihood of burning your food. There are now many different types of cool touch electric deep fryers available in the market by many different manufacturers. The Presto Cool Daddy deep fryer is one appliance that needs no introduction to many users all over the world.

Never having used this particular model, I had mixed-feelings as I plugged in the appliance the first time. The manufacturer's advertisements claimed that it was perfect for up to 6 servings and, true enough, it passed this test with flying colors. Although the initial heating of the oil took longer than expected, everything else went smoothly.

The Presto 05444 Cool Daddy deep fryer comes with a 1-year limited warranty and runs on 120 volts AC at 1500 watts, a big enough wattage for serious use. The machine produces perfectly delicious, crispy and crunchy fried foods - loved by so many - such as chicken, shrimp, French Fries and onion rings.

Like all good fryers, the exterior handle allows food to be lowered into the oil without having to open the lid, i.e. you close the lid with the wire mesh above the oil,, which is then lowered. This means after the initial loading of food, the lid never need to be opened until it is done; a good safety device.

The extra large window allows you to see what's going on inside without having to open the cover. The cover comes with a locking-device to prevent odors and splattering so your home remains safe and odor-free; while fried food does taste delicious it's lingering odors are not always so welcome. The odors are filtered by a charcoal air filter system which can be easily replaced.

The adjustable thermostat allows you to select the desired temperature while the indicator will light up when the oil is heated enough for frying.

The final selling point for me was the ease of cleaning the appliance, with a non-stick pot that is easily removed from the base - it passed with ease. It can be cleaned with hot-soapy water or can even be put in the dishwasher. For me, that is a 'must-have' requirement of any fryer, as cleaning up can be a pain in the neck.

I'm happy to report that, although the Presto Cool Daddy deep fryer took longer than I expected for the oil to heat, everything else was just perfect. For me, it is definitely the best cool touch electric deep fryer money can get you - just putting the T-Fal EZ Clean (another appliance I'd recommend) into second place.

Follow the links for the Presto CoolDaddy deep fryer. You can also read the best electric deep fryer reviews on other leading makes like the T-Fal deep fryer.

Jenn-Air Dishwasher - Important Characteristics of Dishwasher Appliances

The international and Toronto appliance standard for the capacity of appliances, such as dishwashers, is expressed as standard place settings. Dishes or plates of irregular sizes may not fit properly in a dishwasher's cleaning compartment, so it is advisable to check for compatibility before buying a dishwasher.

The inside of a dishwasher appliance, called the tub, can be composed of plastic or stainless steel. Stainless steel tubs resist hard water, provide better sound dampening, and preserve heat to dry dishes faster, features that are included in all Jenn-Air dishwashers.

Mid-to-higher end North American dishwashers, such as the ones in Toronto, often come with hard food disposal units, which behave like miniature garbage disposal units that eliminate large pieces of food waste from the wash water inside the appliance. If the larger items of food waste are removed before placing in the dishwasher, pre-rinsing is not necessary even without integrated waste disposal units. Pre-rinsing under a running tap beforehand simply wastes water, which is not required with Jenn-Air appliances.

Many newer dishwashers feature microprocessor-controlled, sensor-assisted wash cycles that adjust the wash duration to the quantity of dirty dishes or the amount of dirt in the rinse water, features that companies such as Jenn-Air have researched for a long time. This can save water and energy if the user runs a partial load.

Most dishwashers include a large cone or similar structure in the bottom dish rack to prevent placement of dishes in the center of the appliance. The dishwasher directs water from the bottom of the appliance up through this structure to the upper wash arm to spray water on the top dish rack. Some dishwashers, especially Jenn-Air appliances, use a tube attached to the top rack that connects to a water source at the back of the dishwasher which allows full use of the bottom rack.

Some dishwashers include a child-lockout feature to prevent accidental starting or stopping of the wash cycle by children, an important concern for Toronto residents. A child lock can sometimes be included to prevent young children opening the door during a wash cycle. This prevents accidents with hot water and strong detergents used during the appliance wash cycle.

Modern dishwashers are quieter than older models. Using blankets, panels, and sound-absorbing materials in various configurations, dishwashers can achieve sound damping levels down to 44 decibels or so. Undampened, low-end dishwashers generally output noise levels of anywhere from 65-70 decibels. Manufacturers generally use their own nomenclature with sound damping, Jenn-Air using their top of the line Silent Pack technology.

Appliance Handles - They Will Have Your Appliances Looking Stylish in No Time

As you look around your kitchen, you notice that your appliances are kind of lacking in the decorative department. They are kind of boring and plain, but they run fine so you have no plans in getting new ones. Well, appliance handles might be what you need because they are a nice way to refresh the look of your appliances.

Okay so you might be thinking, appliance handles, how can they do that? Are they not just there so I can open and close my refrigerator door or oven? Well, even though they do serve that practical purpose very nicely, there are actually options that are extremely decorative in nature as well. What makes them appealing to look at is the many ways in which they are styled that is the result of the materials they are crafted from, the finishes that they have, and the detailing that they feature.

For example, you can get appliances handles that have a very ornamental antique appearance filled with delightful scrolls while being finished in a patina copper color. Or, you can get others that are more traditional in nature with a simple look and a polished brass or silver finish. And, if you like things that are more on the refined side, then ones made from nickel that have a sleek, clean line and a brushed pewter finish is probably more of what you are looking for. These are just a few of the style options that you can pick from too as there are a plethora of others that you could also get including those with a colonial feel, others that are more country like that you would find in an old farmhouse, and there are also options that combine style elements that are known as transitional options.

There are appliance handles available in all sorts of shapes and sizes so you can easily find the one that you might need. For instance, the one that you would need for your oven would be larger than the ones you would need on your refrigerator since on your refrigerator, you would need two smaller ones for both of its doors instead of the long one for the oven. You can also use them in other ways throughout your home as well and not on your appliances. Like, if you need a new pantry way door, one would be a nice choice. Or, you could even use one as a towel rack if you wanted too.

For a great way to look into all the appliance handles that you could possibly purchase, the thing to do is to go online for some comparison shopping. In no time at all will you be able to find exactly what you are looking for without even having to step one foot outside your home. What you purchase will also be sent right to you, saving you time and money.

In the end, if you want to change up the look of your appliances a bit, just turn to appliance handles to do it.

PAT Testing - Find Out What the Law Says About Portable Appliance Testing

One of the most common causes of fires in the workplace is faulty electrical equipment.Sometimes these faults are not obvious to the untrained eye, and it is fair to say that quite often they are obvious, but are not properly dealt with.

There are various pieces of UK law that deal with electrical safety at work, but the main ones are the 'Electricity At Work Regulations 1989', and the 'Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998'. UK employers have a legal responsibility to have all portable electrical equipment regularly tested, and they must take steps to maintain this equipment is satisfactory state of repair.

What Is A Portable Appliance?

Portable appliances are any item of electrical equipment that is not fixed or permanently attached to the building.A simplistic definition is that it is anything with a plug on, which is a reasonable rule of thumb, but not quite accurate in all circumstances. Most portable appliances will connect to a socket with a plug, but there are some exceptions, so do not use it as a definite rule. The safest definition is of something designed to be moved while connected to an electrical supply.

The requirement is to test and maintain any portable appliance in the workplace, so that does not mean only items that have been purchased or brought onto the premises by the main business or operator. For example, it also applies to equipment brought in by contractors, the DJ's flashing lights for the Christmas disco, and the curling tongs used by Shelia the secretary before she goes out on Friday night. In other words, as the employer you need to have systems in place to control any electrical item that is brought onto the premises for any reason.

Who Can Do PAT Testing?

The law says that PAT testing should be carried out by a Competent Person.Which means that whoever does it needs to know what they are doing, having been properly trained. This does not rule out doing it in-house, as there are plenty of short courses available that you can put your own staff through. You can buy all the necessary testing equipment and software for recording your results.

The alternative is to get a specialist contractor in to do it for you.

How Often Do I Need To Test Portable Appliances?

The law is pretty vague about this, meaning that the employer has to assess the risk for each type of equipment and make a judgment about it.A good average would be an annual test, but there are some items that definitely require more frequent testing, and some that you can get away with less than that.Something that is moved around and used every day (such as a hand drill) is going to need much more regular testing, perhaps quarterly, with daily visual checks.

The frequency of testing has to be a judgment call on the part of the Responsible Person. You can amend the frequency according to your results. For example, if you find faults with something every time it is tested, the frequency probably needs increasing, whereas if there are many repeated tests without problems, you may be able to reduce the frequency.

Recording The Results Of Your PAT Testing

The legislation is once again not prescriptive with regard to recording the results of your PAT testing, but it would not make a lot of sense to not record the results of your testing.

The main record for testing is that each item tested will be given a label with details of the date of the test, the date the next test will be due, whether it passed or failed and a unique identification number. The ID number will often be accompanied by a bar code, for recording systems which use this method to make the recording and reporting on individual items much easier.

Why Window Air Conditioners Ice Up

One of the most frustrating problems with a window air conditioner is if it starts to ice up. For the owner of the air conditioner is can be perplexing.

When this problem occurs most people immediately think it is the fault of the refrigerant gas. More often the cause is the result of other difficulties.

It is most often the result of poor airflow.

Any time the airflow through an air conditioner is restricted the cooling system becomes affected. If taken to extremes the critical pressure-temperature balance of the cooling coil can be changed. If they drop too low the cooling coils surface temperature can drop below the dew point temperature of the room. When this happens the cooling coil will begin to operate as a refrigerator rather than an air conditioner. Rather than simply cooling the air it will collect and hold moisture. The moisture will freeze onto the cooling coil where it will appear as ice.

The primary job of an air conditioner is to de-humidify, not refrigerate, the room air. By removing the moisture from the room air it gives us a feeling of comfort. To do this though the temperature of the cooling coil must always be higher than the rooms dew point. If it is allowed to drop below the dew point the air conditioner will start to produce ice.

With this information in mind the following are a few problems that can result in your air conditioner icing up:

1. Dirty filter.
To avoid this replace or clean your filter every couple of weeks of the cooling season. If a smoker do it every week. To clean filter remove from air conditioner, wet thoroughly, and lay in bottom of a sink. Sprinkle detergent (laundry detergent works well) onto filter surface. Allow to sit for a few minutes. Add warm water to sink so that filter is completely covered. Soak for 15 minutes. Remove from water and rinse. Allow to air dry.

2. Dirty or blocked cooling coil.
An air conditioner requires regular maintenance. Usually every two or three years. Every year would be best, but this can be costly unless you do it yourself. During cleaning the cooling coil should be degreased and washed to remove accumulated dirt and debris. Degreasing is important to remove any coatings on the coil. If not done greasy residue can trap and hold air borne particles. They will build up on the coil and affect heat transfer. If left too long this can result in the cooling coil becoming partially blocked. This will produce a lower airflow.

3. Dirty or blocked condenser coil.
The condenser coil is the one at the rear of the air conditioner. Its job is to dissipate the heat that is being removed from the room. Just like the cooling coil it too must be cleaned every few years. Since the condenser is on the outside of the home it becomes exposed to a lot of dirt, pollen, and smog. Since airflow direction is from inside to outside it is the inside surface of the condenser that becomes dirty. Therefore to clean this part the air conditioner must be completely disassembled. If not cleaned regularly an airflow blockage here can even burn out the compressor. Before this happens though the lowering of airflow will affect the overall operation. This can result in the compressor efficiency dropping, the internal pressure-temperature relationships being affected, and the resultant production of ice on the cooling coil.

4. Inefficient compressor.
As describe above an inefficient compressor can cause icing up. If the compressor is not able to pump the refrigerant properly the cooing coil may not get cold enough to shut off the cold control. It can hover just above the cut off point. When this happens the cooling coil will begin to refrigerate. Ice on the cooling coil will result. If the compressor itself is at fault the air conditioner will have to be replaced. But note that many icing problems are misdiagnosed as bad compressors when they were actually one of the other faults discussed in this article.

5. Not enough refrigerant. Too much refrigerant.
Both scenarios can result in and icing condition. If your air conditioner was repaired recently suspect too much refrigerant. Mixed with an airflow problem this can be difficult to diagnose. If not repaired recently then suspect airflow problems before considering a refrigerant imbalance.

6. Outdoor temperature too low.
Icing can occur if the outside temperature falls below 60 Degrees Fahrenheit. If the outside temperature is too low the air conditioner pressure-temperatures can be affected. When the outside temperature falls the cooling coil temperature will also fall. So much that the coil will refrigerate the room air. This will result in the cooling coil beginning to produce ice. This problem is more prevalent in the fall. If it is hot during the day but cold at night suspect this problem as the cause of icing up. If this problem is suspected try running the air conditioner in the fan only position. Leave the re-circulating vent open. This will circulate the room air without cooling it, while bringing in a small amount of outside air during the night.

7. Oversized air conditioner.
If the air conditioner is too large for the room size icing up can result. If oversized the air conditioner can short-cycle. This condition is usually seen as the air conditioner starting and stopping every few minutes. Even though it runs almost constantly the air conditioner will give poor cooling. Use a sizing chart to determine what is the proper air conditioner size for that particular room.

8. Cold control not shutting off. If the cold control does not shut off the cooling coil surface temperature will drop below the rooms dew point and begin to refrigerate. This will allow ice to build up onto the cooling coil.

9. Cold control bulb broken or loose. As in the previous paragraph this will result in the cold control not shutting off and ice to build up on the cooling coil. If this is suspected remove the front grille and inspect the bulb. If broken replace cold control. If bent, kinked, or not securely fastened suspect a problem here.

How to Make a Woman Orgasm Using This Everyday Household Appliance

How to make a woman orgasm is a difficult question to answer because what works for one woman won't necessarily work for another. Every woman is different and needs different stimulation to bring her to a climax.

In order to find out exactly how to make a woman orgasm you must search for clues from your own partner. There will be certain ways she likes to be touched, kissed, and fondled. She will be able to tell you all you need to know.

If on the other hand you are looking for a little external inspiration then why not try this sexy little technique, you'll need a washing machine to do this: -

After the washer is done agitating and doing official "washing" chores, it goes into the "rinse and spin" cycle. This is when you make your move.

As the rinse water fills, engage in some passionate foreplay. During this time, undress your woman and yourself. By now, the washer should be ready to spin -- and you should be ready to deliver an awesome orgasm your woman will never forget.

As soon as you hear the washer kick into "spin" mode, lead your woman over to it, put your hands on her hips and lift her up onto the top of the washing machine.

Most washers are at just the right height for you to easily part her thighs and insert yourself without having to make any real adjustments. But if you need to stand on something, do so.

Make love to her. Let the thrusts of your body combine with the intense vibration of the washer to take your woman over the top in a way she's never felt before.

She's had some fun and you've learnt how to make a woman orgasm using a household appliance AND you've got clean underwear for tomorrow, everybody wins.

If you want to learn the secrets that most men (and women) don't know about the female orgasm and the G-Spot and how a few simple intensity building, leg shaking techniques can bring about a guaranteed orgasm each and every time you make love then you need to visit this site - http://www.thetruthaboutorgasms.com

The Need of Outdoor HDTV Antenna

Buying an HDTV antenna is the most feasible step you can take after you have brought in a new HDTV, because there is no need to add further to you expenses during these economically depressed times.

So make a quick call to your cable TV provider and inform him that you are no more interested to receive his services. Definitely, there is no need to continue with him when you can receive free HDTV broadcasts using this very useful communication equipment.

However, before buying such an antenna you need to take care of some points. Hopefully, you will follow the next few lines which can, which I am sure of, help you bring in the best product available in the market.

Whether you need to buy an indoor or outdoor HDTV antenna, completely depends on the area your home is located at. If the broadcast tower stands nears your home with very few things such as tall buildings to disrupt the signals then you can buy an indoor HDTV antenna.

Moreover, those living far away from towers or those living too close to a tower but there come numerous obstacles in between, then there is nothing better than an outdoor antenna. However, it doesn't mean that if you are very close to a TV tower then you don't have a right to buy an outdoor antenna.

It is always believed, whatever the conditions can be, you should opt for an outdoor antenna. Why? Here are the answers -

1. They give you the best signals as they are immune to all type of disturbances. They give you the best picture quality and live no room for disturbed signals.

2. Contrary to the popular belief that an outdoor antenna can be placed on the rooftop only, there are some models which can be hung on the outer walls, around your courtyard, railings, windows etc.

3. They come in varied sizes so there is no need to worry. You can choose an antenna based upon your needs. One thing more! Whatever size you choose, you will always get the same quality of picture.

Recreational Vehicles - Loads Of Fun Until They Break!

Well you've bought the beast and it sits in the side yard just waiting to go out for it's next adventure. However towards the end of your last trip you started to notice some things that you thought needed attention.

The first question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you should even attempt some of the maintenance items yourself. Are you ready, or qualified, for do-it-yourself RV repairs? Unless properly trained and prepared, recreational vehicle owners should not attempt to make certain repairs or perform service on any RV, product or component. If you don't believe me I'll give you my father's phone number and you can ask him how much he paid the mechanic after one of his "I can do it myself thank you very much" attempts. I was there. It turned out very badly. It got VERY dark on the side of the road that cold night in Tennessee.

The Two Types of Repairs

There are basically two types of RV service; crisis repairs and preventive maintenance. Preventive maintenance can include such items as the following: checking and sealing the roof, windows, storage compartments and doors, cleaning, flushing and servicing the LP appliances, changing the oil in the generator and chassis engine and checking all fluid levels, cleaning the filters in the roof air conditioners, cleaning and treating your holding tanks, flushing and sanitizing your fresh water system, performing battery maintenance. These can be considered something you do now to prevent something worse from happening later. Call it insurance if you like. Crisis repairs (also known as Holy Cripes what now!), on the other hand, offer no options. The problem is staring you right in the face and if you want to get back on the road it has to be handled now. A few examples of crisis repairs would be an abnormally worn tire, a flat tire, or a blown engine.

Fortunately preventive maintenance will go a long way towards minimizing the frequency and the degree of crisis-type repairs. Routine tire inspection and careful study of inflation pressures, checking and cleaning the refrigerator components and checking the LP pressure, regular oil changes, and periodic cleaning of the air conditioner filters can all prevent the above crisis repairs from happening. Keep in mind the old adage..Penny foolish. Pound Wise. Don't try to cut corners.

Do It Yourself?

Oh yeah, remember that warranty you got along with the vehicle the day you shelled out the bucks to drive it off the dealers lot? Read it carefully before you even attempt to loosen a screw. In some cases, warranties may be voided or manufacturer liability lessened if unauthorized repairs are performed Some maintenance items, though mandated by the product manufacturer, may not be covered by new or extended warranties. Rarely are maintenance items ever covered under warranty. The key is knowing when to actively participate and when to simply make an appointment at your local service facility.

So the warranty is run out and you are in the garage getting the tools out. There a few more considerations to ponder before you dive in.

Am I physically fit and mechanically adept? - Buck up and realize your limitations there laddie or lassie. Ask yourself, "Can I physically perform the steps necessary to do this?" Many items in, under, on and around motorhomes require quite a bit of physical dexterity to access and remove if needed. Physical limitations may prohibit some of us from performing certain maintenance items. If the subject at hand is truly over your head then it's acceptable to back off and call a pro. You definitely do not want to risk converting a simple maintenance task into a costly crisis repair! It will cost substantially more to undo an error than to simply make an appointment with a service center if the subject is beyond your scope. (Again I offer my dad's phone number to anyone who doubts this.)

Do you have a willingness to learn - If you truly want to be able to perform some routine maintenance items, be willing to do a little homework. Servicing LP related appliances and components, for instance, virtually mandates a basic understanding of the sequence of operation of that appliance. Both electrically and with the flow of the LP gas. Each appliance is different, but your advantage is that you only need to learn those that pertain to your RV. And it's not that difficult to learn. Oh, it requires reading and studying the literature that came with your rv, but for the most part, it can be enjoyable.

Have the right tools - Be aware that many maintenance tasks require a selection of tools and that some require specialty tools that you may not have in your tool kit. Here are a few specialty tools you may want to eventually acquire:

Manometer - this device allows you to measure the LP pressure correctly.

Never adjust your LP regulator without using a manometer.

Thermocouple tester - used to bench test LP appliance thermocouples

Battery hydrometer - one that is temperature compensated is more accurate.

Volt, Ohm, multi-meter (VOM) - a digital one is best, but any is better than just a simple test lamp

Consider the time factor - Always plan your approach to any maintenance task appropriately. Realize that all maintenance requires time. Be sure to allot yourself plenty of time to complete whatever it is you are undertaking. Do not rush yourself. You are more likely to omit a step or make a mistake if you are under pressure to complete a task when in a hurry. Remember, the next time you perform that same task, the time element will be reduced. Familiarity and repetition will breed speed.

How to "Do It Yourself"

The following suggestions will get you started.

Prepare a proper and clean work area - Having a clean work area for whatever the task may be is vital in order to avoid confusion and also help keep the coach clean if you must traipse in and out of it several times. When servicing the appliances for example, it is best to perform the maintenance tasks with the appliances left in the installed positions. An exception would be the RV furnace. In some instances concerning the furnace, better results are attained if the furnace is removed and the work performed on a bench.

If you will be needing electricity, have your extension cord uncoiled and strategically placed prior to starting. Likewise, if using a drill motor, have the correct size drill bit, or screwdriver tip at hand. Proper preparation will make any maintenance task easier. Did you remember to allow enough time to do the work?

Have all replacement parts ready to go - Have all replacement parts prepared and laid out for easy access. If your maintenance task involves threaded fittings, a handy tip is to apply the correct sealant or Teflon tape before actually starting the work. It's much neater and easier when your hands are relatively clean. Lay the fittings aside and cover them with a shop towel or cloth until needed. If the new parts need any type of pre-assembly, do it now, before you get engrossed in the task at hand. If some parts in a repair kit will not be needed, separate and discard them prior to beginning. This will simplify your repair and avoid any confusion you may encounter later when you realize you have a few parts left over.

Obtain the necessary support materials - As mentioned earlier, have all wiring diagrams, service notes, installation instructions or any other type of resource open and within easy reach before starting the job. If you feel you may need additional help or support information, postpone the maintenance until all the necessary information is in your hand. Remember, preparation is much easier for a preventive maintenance procedure as opposed to an unwanted crisis repair. Also, keep in mind many maintenance tasks are now available on detailed instructional video tapes. Check out our Video Library Page. Additionally, many local community colleges now offer classes for the RVer and RV shows offer seminars on RV maintenance.

Get to know a local service facility - Do Not Leave This Step Out! Even though you may want to perform some maintenance yourself, always get to know a local dealer or service center in your area. Eventually your going to have to swallow your pride and call on them for help and aside from being there to order parts for you, they can also be a good source of information.

Additional tips - Never attempt to adjust your RV generator yourself. This is one area that is definitely better left to your service shop. Many specialty tools are required, as the generator needs to be load tested while making governor and carburetor adjustments. Load banks and specialty testers are beyond the scope of the do-it-yourselfer. Just remember that on the RV generator every mechanical adjustment that is made has an electrical result. You cannot tune a generator by ear. This item is for the professional.

Also never attempt to adjust your LP regulator without the knowledge and use of a water column manometer. Changes in the delivery pressure, though crucial to each appliance cannot be determined by visually watching a burner flame. Too high LP pressure will damage many appliances, while too low of a delivery pressure will result in improper combustion and inefficient appliance operation.

By honestly accessing your technical expertise, learning and gathering a resource library of sorts for those items on your coach, and acquiring the proper tools and parts, you may be just ready to experience the fun of maintaining your investment for your leisure over the road enjoyment. It is hoped that major repair costs are avoided and total enjoyment is realized from the experiences of working on your own motorhome.

Compact Refrigerators - Getting the Best Deal

If you're currently in the market to buy a small refrigerator or a kitchen sized refrigerator, I'm going to tell you how you can get the best deal for your money. Many people don't know about this strategy but it does work and it can save you a ton compared to the local appliance stores.

Start your search in the appliance store

The first thing you're going to want to do is head up to your appliance store. You're going to want to know exactly what you want. When browsing through the store, mark down the information and ask all the questions you can about the particular refrigerator. The key here is that you won't want to buy it but instead, we are going to search online.

Start looking online

Now that you have all your questions answered as well as the model number, you're going to want to search for the model online. Start looking at price comparison sites to see where you can get the best deal. Look for free shipping offers and any other offers that might come with it. You'll be amazed at how much you can save just by going online. This is why it's important to research in person and buy online.

When you finally find the model and you're ready to buy, look for great deals. Sometimes you may find that you can sign up for a credit card and get 10%. My rule of thumb is if you can save more than $100 with the credit card offer, do it! You have nothing to lose. Even if you can pay in cash, sign up for the card and pay it off.
