I have owned this camera for over 5-6 years, and love it. Now looking at upgrading to a DSLR. With the len's, I have the Canon EF 28-90 mm lens and then purchased a Telephoto 300mm lens to go with it. Quality of pictures is amazing, functions easy to use, point+shoot automatic mode great. Semi-pro photographer and with this camera, have had photos published in magazines + calendars. Takes amazing close up photos, and distant photos. A good lens is a definate requirement. I would highly recommend this camera and it would be well used. You won't be dissapointed!

It is almost interactive... you can pause the DVD, play with the camera to understand that portion of the lesson, then click play. I wanted a fish eye wide angle lens but didn't want the high price. This lense fit the bill. Pictures very sharp and I get the fish eye effect I was looking for. It is attached to an 18-55mm lense. At the 18mm it does create a round view that shows the lens barrel but it is an interesting effect. Great lens for the price.

Customer Review: a life saver when you need to download a ton of vid/pics
If you have a big SD card and typically download a ton of pictures and video (I'd say over 250 video/pics) then this little item is pretty useful. The lowdown: you simply remove your battery in the camera (I have an SD950IS) and slip the adapter battery in its place, and close the battery cover. pull out the rubber stopper on the camera's battery cover (yeah, this is what that thing is for!) and plug in the adapter cord. It's pretty much that easy. So besides using this for downloading a lot of content, I have also plugged it in when replaying images and videos from the camera to a TV. I have noticed that when I have a large download from the camera, that using this adapter as the power source instead of the battery power (which is what I always did) made the download noticeably faster! Just keep in mind that the adapter is exactly what it looks like in the picture, it can be a little cumbersome if you are trying to travel light. It has that typical converter block that you see and the wires are long, so they could take up some space, again, if you are looking to take it with you everywhere you go. I just keep it by the computer where I download everything. Great little product.

Customer Review: Ok starter camera, not OK repair costs
Up to this point in my ownership of the camera---two years---I have been quite happy with this camera as a camera to get into photography with. I have pulled quite a few shots I have been extremely impressed with. However, I was recently performing some lens sharpness testing, and in the middle of it, my mirror lock-up feature stopped working: it would not record an image at all while that custom function was enabled. I called Canon's technical support number, and the guy on their end was very friendly and we tried resetting the camera to its default settings and custom functions. When this failed to work, he gave me the address to return it for repairs, not really mentioning that because I was out of warranty that this wouldn't be a cheap expenditure. I'm sure he couldn't really speculate as to how much since he didn't know the problem, but a heads up of the possibility would have been nice. Instead, I got an email notification of the repairs estimate, and it was $210!!!!! Not too much shy of what a person might buy a used or rebuilt camera for on here. For $50, a person can get an extended warranty from Canon for an additional 4 years. I think that would be well worth it, since you know you will pay significantly more than that in repair costs if and when your camera goes south. Something to think seriously about, because it is an electronic item, and the standard warranty of a year doesn't get you very far. I would have to say that I think Canon's repair charges are a bit steep though given the total worth of such a camera. I can't say that I'll take my shopping to another brand's camera lineup though, because I do like Canon's products, but I was just disappointed this time that they couldn't get that function back up and running for considerably less.
Customer Review: Fun, sweet, great beginner level DSLR
The Canon Rebel XT is a great entry level camera for the new Digital SLR photographer. If you're reading a review for a Rebel, I'm going to assume you're deciding on your first DSLR camera. Let me save you some trouble and stress by saying ALL the entry-level DSLRs, from Canon and Nikon, are fine choices and you really can't go wrong. The camera body is the cheapest part of the camera you're likely to purchase, and it's really the easiest to make a decision on: go to a store, pick up a Rebel, pick up a D80 (the Nikon more or less equivalent) and decide which feels RIGHT. Come back to Amazon and buy that camera. Keep in mind that you'll probably be a life-long Canon or Nikon SLR owner at that point, as the lenses you'll later buy for your camera are brand-specific. The same lens will work fine with Rebels and higher-end SLRs, but it'll never fit a Nikon D-anything. The kit lens is okay, and if you're new to Digital SLR's the kit lens makes a great first lens. There is a lot of noticeable distortion at the 18-20mm zoom range, and it feels like the cheapest part of the camera, but if you're buying your first Digital SLR it's no fun to have the UPS guy hand you a brand new camera that can't take pictures. It'll be a good lens for your first year, and you'll learn a lot with it. I love the XT's size and feel, the buttons and knobs are in good places, and the camera looks impressive and feels well built. It's an older model camera but it's priced very well, especially for new photographers. Battery life is really great, and I hardly ever need to swap batteries when out. I wish the display showed the ISO, as I'm notorious for not checking the ISO and shooting in broad daylight at 800 or 1600 ISO. Newer models display the ISO on the back of the camera. This model also lacks the self-cleaning system, which may or may not be helpful in getting dust out of your camera. The Canon neck strap sucks, so shop around for a better one at your local camera shop. Keep in mind, you'll also need to purchase a CF Card (I'd suggest 4 gigs or higher) a tripod, a camera bag and a better neck strap. Also consider a remote and the $90 Canon 50mm 1.8/f lens for low depth of field and low light shooting. Finally, you might want Understanding Exposure, a great book on explaining how light works with ISO, shutter speed and aperture. If I had to do it all over again I'd happily buy a Rebel XT. I'm looking forward to upgrading to a newer, fancier Rebel next year, but only because I like giving my money to Amazon. There's no reason I need to upgrade, and there's no reason not to buy a Rebel XT. I couldn't be happier.

Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarized and polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. PL (Linear Polarizing) and PL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters have the same effect, but it is important that you choose the correct version for your camera. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds.
HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot. Many of today's cameras use semi-silvered mirrors or prisms to split the light entering the viewfinder in order to calculate exposure and focusing distance. PL (Linear Polarizing) filters can sometimes interact with these items to give unpredictable exposure or focusing. So we recommend that you choose a PL-CIR filter unless you have a manual focus camera which has no beam splitter. PLEASE NOTE: Some cameras require an adapter tube to fit the filters

Customer Review: good features, but pretty bulky
One thing noted about the Canon Rebel 2000 is that it is very small for an SLR. Some people like this, but others find that it makes the grip uncomfortable. This is the main reason I bought this grip, to "extend" the vertical grip so my whole hand could fit around it. There is another option for the R2K, the battery pack, which is similar, except it has space for extra batteries instead of a mini tripod. I believe the battery pack has a vertical shutter release button, but this grip does not. The tripod is very convenient, because it is always on hand to keep the camera steady. It is a little a awkward to extend, but it moves in many directions to accommodate your situation. There is an easy to operate lock that holds the pod in any position. The grip fits very securely to the camera. There is a large disk that you spin from either side, and it fits into the tripod socket. What's great about the way this works, is that it is like some of the new tripods. If you tighten it, it pulls against the socket, rather than pushing into the camera. This way you can tighted it and be sure you won't break into the camera. My only gripe is that it is rather bulky. It weighs considerably compared to just the camera. But that was probably what you were looking for, because the R2K is very lightweight and plasticy feeling. This piece is very solid. It comes with a strap that connects from the slot on the top right (where you probably have the neck strap connected) to a slot on the right side of the grip. This way you can securely hold the camera in one hand w/o the neck strap. However, it is tedious to remove the strap and re-attach the neck strap if you need to remove the grip. If you want, you can use the grip without the strap. This lets you simply unscrew the disk to quickly remove the whole thing.

The tripod is excellent and it even fits my Panasonic Video Camera! The cleaning kit has everything you need to clean a camera or video camera lens. The bag was great (I really like the "sling" style) but it was a little bigger than what I wanted. I emailed Cameta Camera and even though this was a kit, they allowed me to return just the bag for a credit. Great Customer Service!

Customer Review: Maybe best in class
I give this product 5 stars only in terms of how it compares to other flash units in it's price category. Is it equal to the pro grade flash units? NO! But in terms of bang for the buck, you can't do much better? Pros -------- 1) Price 2) solid construction 3) fast recharge time 4) full swivel & bounce capability 5) ETTL capable, so it works with the DSLRs 6) Has zoom head for adjusting flash to focal length Cons --------- 1) Cannot switch ETTL mode on/off 2) No switches for manually adjusting output power The net result of the cons above is that when using the diffuser and/or bouncing flash the ETTL brain causes the camera to under-expose the photo, so you have to experiment and then using manual mode on the camera set the camera for the correct exposure. Generally when using the diffuser you will need to compensate as much as 1 to 2 full stops depending on focal length and distance from subject, and this is in fairly close range "portait" scenarios. If you are bouncing flash off of ceilings or walls, you will need to compensate even more. The flash unit's sensor simply takes straight ahead light readings and sends that data to the camera. All flash units do this, but the more expensive models have manual settings on the flash unit, so you can compensate flash, rather than compensating camera settings. For example, if depth of field is important to a shot, you may not want to stop your camera down from f7 to f4 to compensate for the flash unit. Other than the lack of manual settings, the unit performs like a pro even in awkward lighting situations. I have created poor lighting situations. I turned our living room lights out and opened the laundry room door, had my wife stand in front of the laundry room door, so she was in a dark room with a fully backlit room behind her, and photographed her with flash bounced at 45% with diffusion filter on, and the exposure was perfect with full rich color, and absolutely no harsh lighting. Given it's obvious limitations, this unit is a definite value given it's price. I would definitely buy it again. It's a great fill flash unit for studio effects as well. If you are shooting weddings or events professionally, you will want the Canon 480/580EX however.
Customer Review: Charger broke.
The battery charger broke after only a few times of use. I tried other batteries, and it still wouldn't work. Good thing I have a back up charger. The flash itself is basically a 'you get what you pay for' accessory. Don't expect superb results, but you'll be satisfied.

Customer Review: Better than Nikon's Lens Pen
I purchased to use with my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K. This great camera has a body that's nearly impossible not to get fingerprints on the LCD. The DigiKlear worked great to clean the LCD. It's amazing how it's self-replenishing and cleans without the need for a spray cleaner or cloth. After using the DigiKlear, I covered the LCD with an Invisible Shield by Zagg which is the best screen protector I've found. The LensPen is also great and it is so much better than Nikon's Lens Pen. I haven't yet used the cleaning kit but I'm sure it will come in handy. I purchased this combination kit since it was cheaper than buying the items individually. I would have given it 5 stars if it had come with a small case to keep all the items organized. I suggest that they create a cloth case with pliable plastic pockets that rolls up such as a wrench set that has a string to bundle it up. But that might have made it more expensive. I'm hoping the Tamrac bag I ordered will be able to keep these items safe & organized for when I need to use them. The two pens would have cost much more to purchase individually so it's like getting the cleaning kit for free.

you could buy all of these items separately but this package really does it all. It is a great combo. The only reason it gets 4 not 5 stars is that it would really be nice if it came with a carry case of some kind, but that would probably add to the price. The Lens Pens are great and having the 2 different shapes for the lenses and the screens helps out.

Once you go SlR you'll never go back. I got other point and shoot cameras, but never used them after I bought my SLR canon xti. The other day, I ran out of battery and I tried to used a point and shoot to get some picture of some abandoned kitties I found. Then I realized that once you get used to your SLR, you'll find p&s a nuisance. And let's not get into picture quality and pixels.

I have medium size hands and this camera fits nicely. I like the larger fonts and LCD screen, being 58 my eyes need a little help . The settings are easy to find and change. The battery life is great, you can shoot all day long. Using a lens with IS cuts it down a little. I like all of the adjustments for the picture styles, you can change the contrast, saturation, sharpness or color tone. You can even make your personal settings and save them. For being the cheapest Canon DSLR this is a great camera. I have three Canon digitals the G3, 300D, and 400D and I like them all.

Durable, well padded and with plenty of space for my carry-around bag. The Velocity 7x might have worked also, but I was afraid that it would not fit my D80 with 70-300VR attached and a Tamron 17-50 on one side and my SB800 on the other. Love the Tripod- it is extremely lightweight and so easy to set up. As soon as I got the flash, I inserted the batteries and starting taking pictures. I did tests with the Speedllite and with the pop-up flash on my Cannon rebel xti. Definitely a great difference in the close up portraits I took. No Red eye and with the speedlight, the light was a bit brighter. The big difference was when I put a diffuser on the Speedlite. Made the photos look bright but without the bright contrast. I recommend the OMEW Omni Bounce diffuser to put on the flash when taking portraits. Very inexpensive and does the job. I took my camera with new flash to an event where I took over 250 portraits and all came out great with the Speedlite. Did not have to change the batteries at all.

This package is a good deal for the price. The XSi with lens kit is available in the market for around $899. For extra $30 I thought this was a cool bargain. I did have some problems with the shipment though from this seller which were kinda resolved. The XSi camera with the 18-55mm lens is cool. I took about 130 pictures and it has come out really great. I took pictures of flying birds, planes, landscapes, sunrise etc. I like the feel of the camera in my large hands. It feels really solid. In this kit, I got an extra battery, camera bag and LCD screen protectors which I was most interested in. The tripod, filters etc are a bonus for me. I am satisfied with this purchase and am happy with the XSi which is my first DSLR camera.
